Visitors of the Hawaiian Islands will find a variety of different plant, marine, and animal life. More than ninety percent of Hawaii’s plants and animals cannot be found anywhere else throughout the world. Also, the bodies of water found within this island houses a much larger variety of fish than can be found anywhere else. Hawaii’s state fish is the humuhumunukunukuapuaa. Some individuals refer to Hawaii as the Endangered Species Capital of the World. Among United States’ endangered species Hawaii houses a minimum of 1/3 of them. Some of the endangered species that can be found on this island include the Nene Goose, the Pueo, which is a Hawaiian owl, and the Humpback Whale.

Residence and visitors of Hawaii will only every experience two different seasons throughout the year. Summer occurs from May to October and winter occurs from October to April. Hawaii’s annual temperature is normally around 77, the island’s climate is considered to be subtropical.

The cost of living in Hawaii is one of the highest in the entire nation, but the islands per capita personal income is considered to be below the national average. The main contributors of Hawaii’s economy is the visitor expenditures, there federal defense spending, and their construction. The money earned within the visitor expenditure is not always what it appears to be due to the fact that a specific percentage of the finances earned from tourism does not stay on the islands, but instead are given to the investors overseas. As of the early 1990s Hawaii has been trying to make its economy more diverse and has been concentrating more on industries like science and technology along with health and wellness tourism, the research and development of the ocean, the diversities of agriculture, and the production of film and television.

Future Hawaiian college students may choose between ten different campuses statewide under the University of Hawaii. Three of these campuses are university campuses while the remaining seven are community colleges. In addition to these 10 University of Hawaii campuses the islands also house three universities that are private. Hawaii’s public school system is operated statewide under one State Department of Education. Hawaii is ranked as one of the lowest educational locations nationally.

Hawaii is considered to be one of the most remote island chains within the world. Their nearest landfall is over 2,000 miles away. Individuals found on these Polynesian islands enjoy peaceful isolation away from the rest of the world. More than 99 percent of Hawaii’s total land area is made up of 8 of the major islands. These 8 islands are Oahu, Maui, Hawaii, which is referred to as the Big Island, Kauai, Molokai, as well as Lanai, Kahoolawe, which is not habitable, and Niihau, which is a privately owned island. Together these islands make up one of the smallest states within the United States.
